Risks of violence and rioting on campus

The Department of Economics at the College of Administration and Economics at Diyala University
held a workshop entitled (The Dangers of Violence or Riots on Campus), presented by Assistant
 Lecturer Anmar Shehab Ahmed.

Violence or rioting on university campuses is a negative phenomenon that directly impacts the e
ducational environment. It spreads fear and instability among students, weakens academic perfor
mance, and damages public and private property. Furthermore, it contributes to creating an unsa
fe environment that hinders the university's mission of disseminating knowledge and culture, ca
n lead to the breakdown of social relationships among students, and negatively affects the inst
itution's reputation in the community.

This can be illustrated by the verse: “And do not transgress. Indeed, Allah does not like trans
gressors.” (Surah Al-Baqarah 190)

Among the causes of this phenomenon are weak cultural and moral awareness, susceptibility to ex
tremist ideologies, personal and tribal conflicts, and a lack of dialogue and understanding amo
ng students. Therefore, a culture of peace and respect for the law must be promoted within univ
ersities through awareness seminars, the activation of educational guidance programs, and the i
mposition of legal penalties on those who incite chaos or assault others.
